„colors of history“ is a visual investigation of the post world war II history. The series is focussed on historic events that had (and have) a major influence on humanity in general or the wellbeing of many.

For each such event, 100 images are determined with google image search, using the search algorythem "image type: photo" and "image size: big". The first 100 relevant results are downloaded  (ignoring graphics and images that contain text).

These 100 images are scaled (to a minimum width/highth  of 100/ 70 cm at 300dpi) and digitally superimposed in a way that each of the 100 initial images is represented in the resulting image with exactly 1%.  The resulting image is a cloudy grey-ish color field that represents the compressed visual information about the respective historic event. The image title corresponds to the search term used.

In a second step, the average color of each image of the series is determined.

The result is an individual RGB code for each historic event.

These color codes represent the color palette "colors of history".
