In early 2014 Nürnberg’s local electric utility started building a hot water reservoir for district heating. During its construction we got access to this 70-meters high hollow steel cylinder.

We conducted a series of acoustic experiments dealing with resonance and reverb. As tools for these experiments we used loudspeakers and microphones, while our methods ranged from feedback-experiments to professional space-acoustic measurements.

rare_spaces  is a series of artistic investigations of the acoustic potetntial of spaces that are normally not accessible for the public.

The tools for this research are loudspeakers and microphones, while the experiments focus on the natural resonance frequencies and the reverberation-time of the individual space.

The investigation methodes are controlled acoustic feedback and impulse-responce experiments.

Each investigation results in a 10-15 minutes audio-piece that is an acoustic portrait of the individual space
